Going Digital and Green

This week’s Green Impact post will focus on the Green Action ELT guide to reducing your digital carbon footprint. Digital tech is responsible for over 7% of global electricity and contributes to more than 2% of global emissions. This might not sound like a lot, but small changes can have astronomical impacts on the environment.

Here are some tips:

  • Repair tech wherever possible and buy refurbished products, not new ones.
  • Avoid unnecessarily ‘smart’ products (not everything needs wifi).
  • Switch to a green email provider, website host, and search engine when possible.
  • If you don’t need video, don’t use it, especially for calls and team meetings.
  • Download albums or playlists you listen to frequently rather than streaming.
