Returning to Uni: Reducing Digital Pollution

Image
The Green Impact Team is continuing with our goal to educate about digital pollution as students come back from break and are studying for exams. Here are some more tips to reduce your carbon footprint, especially if you are returning from a digital break with lots to catch up on.

Going Digital and Green

This week’s Green Impact post will focus on the Green Action ELT guide to reducing your digital carbon footprint. This might not sound like a lot, but small changes can have astronomical impacts on the environment.

Welcome back - Green Impact Updates

Welcome back! This week’s post will update you on what the Green Impact Team has been accomplishing recently! We have recently been informed that the team has won the 2023 Community Action Award! This is a Green Impact National Award we received for supporting our area and local charities. The full article is here .  This Tuesday, the 16th of April, we are having another Community Litter Pick, which students are welcome to join. It will be from 12 to 12:30, weather permitting. Meet in the Bartolome House reception area if you are interested! On top of this event, the team has recently volunteered at S6 Foodbank . It was a fantastic opportunity to unpack crates and package parcels and learn more about what they accomplish through experience! Have any questions or want to be involved? Email law-greenimpact@sheffield.ac.uk and follow @uosgreenimpact on Instagram for updates about our team and other Green Impact teams around campus.

The average year of incoming emails adds 136 kg of emissions to an individual’s carbon footprint. Here are some of their tips on reducing our devices' energy consumption! Tips to Save Energy Avoid using wireless chargers as they consume more energy.  Unplug your chargers which are not in use.  Fully shut down devices when they are not in use.  Close or turn off apps, tabs, and location services whenever possib...

Clothing Swap at Bartolome House!

Image
Do you have some clothes you want to get rid of or enjoy new (to you) clothes? The School of Law Green Impact Team is starting a clothing swap rail area in Bartolome House! It will be located in the Bartolome House atrium (in the basement) from 18th-22nd March. Students and staff are encouraged to use this area instead of binning old clothes, and any donations will go to the Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust.

Sort through your Digital Pollution - information and tips
