Returning to Uni: Reducing Digital Pollution
The Green Impact Team is continuing with our goal to educate about digital pollution as students come back from break and are studying for exams. Here are some more tips to reduce your carbon footprint, especially if you are returning from a digital break with lots to catch up on.
First, Some Facts:
Clean Fox Research completed on emails and internet pollution showed that in 2020, undeleted emails were responsible for more than 2 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in the United Kingdom alone. This is equivalent to 1.3 million polluting cars! This article goes in-depth on that study and more.
Reducing your Impact:
- Delete old emails you no longer need or use.
- Lessen dependence on technology wherever possible, which can also improve mental health!
- Reduce your screen brightness when possible.
- Charge your phone and other devices in shorter intervals to extend battery life. Longer-lasting devices mean less waste!
