International Law Book Facility (ILBF) law undergraduate essay competition

Looking for a new challenge that will help your legal careers and give you the chance to win a week’s internship at international firm Brown Rudnick?

Baroness Carr, Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, has launched the International Law Book Facility’s (ILBF) 2025 essay competition – open to all undergraduates studying law in the UK. 

The competition this year coincides with the ILBF’s 20th anniversary and the subject matter of the essay is for undergraduates to think about a key issue of huge importance to the ILBF’s mission – the rule of law. The essay title is: ‘What will be the challenges to the rule of law in the next 20 years?’

The deadline for submissions is 22nd April at 4pm. The finalists will be invited to the ILBF’s 20th anniversary event in London in May when we will announce the winner.

The winner will undertake their internship with Brown Rudnick this summer and their essay will be published in the Commonwealth Lawyers Association newsletter which has an international circulation. We will also publish the winning essay on the ILBF website.

In support of the essay competition and to provide inspiring insights for all students, on 25th February from 5pm-6.30pm we will be holding a free online panel discussion hosted by LexisNexis with an exciting panel who will delve into the issues facing the rule of law.
