The Northern Universities Internship vacancies are OPEN.
Government Policy Official: 10 week Summer Internship (Salary up to £26,000 pro rata) - open to first and second year students See here for summer placement details.
Policy Advisor (Executive Officer) 12 month Placement (Salary of up to £30,000) - open to second year students See here for placement year details.
Working on policy developments across a wide range of topics, you’ll use different skills that you will have developed while doing your degree including:
Ability to communicate verbally and through written explanations
Problem solving and critical thinking skills, being able to analyse situations thinking strategically to provide a solution.
Being adaptable and flexible
Teamwork and Collaboration
Time Management and Organisation
You will have the chance to work with one of the following departments:
Department for Work and Pension
Department for Education
Department for Health and Social Care
The vacancies are advertised on the Civil Service website and are exclusive to only three Universities - 30 summer internships and 6 year long placements are up for grabs and in previous years students from our University have secured the majority of these.

This session, delivered by Civil Servants, aims to support students in applying for the Northern Universities Internship scheme taking place in Summer 2025. This session will be delivered as a workshop focused on preparing answers to civil service behaviours sought after in the applications.
