Equal Opportunities Fund - Now Open

All students qualifying for Equal Opportunities can apply for up to £300 per academic year to reimburse expenses incurred when taking part in an activity that develops your employability (subject to receipts received).

What opportunities can I take part in?
  • Volunteering
  • Work shadowing
  • Interview
  • Assessment centre
  • Networking
  • Employer visit
  • Professional conference
  • Training course
What expenses can I claim?
  • Travel costs - standard public transport wherever possible
  • Overnight accommodation - up to the value of £100 per night and where return travel the same day is not feasible
  • Childcare/additional care costs - up to the value of £60 per day
  • Appropriate professional clothing - up to the value of £100
  • Student membership of a professional body
  • Attendance fee for an event or conference
  • Fee for a training course
  • Equipment to help you undertake the activity, including technical equipment and software
  • Subscription to additional employability resources, eg LinkedIn

Application guidance
  • Your opportunity can be online or in person
  • You can claim multiple expenses relating to your opportunity
  • Each opportunity requires a separate application. For example, you can submit an application to reimburse professional clothing and travel costs for an interview. If you are also undertaking a training course, and would like us to reimburse your course fee, you will need to make another application as this is classed as a separate opportunity
  • At the point of submitting your application you must be able to provide evidence that your opportunity is bookable or is definitely taking place
  • We cannot reimburse expenses incurred from work experience, internships, placements or work (even if unpaid)
  • We cannot provide funding towards field trips or electives that are classed as part of your degree
  • We cannot support opportunities that have already taken place by the time you submit your application
The closing date for applications is Wednesday 1 July 2026.
